Welcome
At Pack 318, we are excited to have you join our vibrant community of Cub Scouts, where children from kindergarten through fifth grade embark on a journey of adventure, learning, and friendship.
This page is designed to provide parents and guardians with answers to common questions about scouting, ensuring you have all the information you need to support your child's experience. We encourage you to explore our Resources page, where you'll find valuable information on camping packing lists, the Pinewood Derby, and other exciting scouting events. Together, let's make unforgettable memories in the great outdoors!
Costs
Compared to the expenses of sports and other youth programs, we believe that Scouting offers exceptional value, providing benefits that last a lifetime.
PACK BUDGET
A significant portion of Pack 318’s core expenses is funded through our annual popcorn sale. These funds help maintain our pack-owned equipment and cover materials for pack and den meetings, awards and badges for Scouts, Pinewood Derby trophies, and more.
INDIVIDUAL COSTS
Costs for each Scout’s participation generally fall into three main categories:
-
Annual costs: Paid each year, typically at the start of the program year (e.g., member dues)
-
Outfitting costs: Often incurred the first year and may not be needed every year (e.g., uniform shirt)
-
Activity fees: Paid as needed to join specific activities that require additional fees (e.g., meal fees for campouts)
A summary of estimated costs for each category is included HERE. Families who need financial assistance can refer to the Financial Assistance section at the end of this page.
PACK 421 “SCOUT CLOSET”
Each year, we gather outgrown uniforms and handbooks from older Scouts and make them available during the first few pack meetings, offering families a chance to save on new gear. Items are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
NOTE for Fall 2024: This year, no hand-me-down handbooks are available, as all ranks have new editions. The changes in these new handbooks make older editions less relevant. If you have an outdated edition, please recycle it.
Let me know if you’d like further adjustments!
